Part Time Medical Receptionist

Department: GVH Clinics 

Reports To: Clinic Manager

JOB SUMMARY

Our Medical Receptionist is responsible for the administrative duties involved with coordinating patient and physician schedules as well as bookkeeping, file management and office organization. We believe that patients should be treated as people rather than numbers in a file, and who understands the value of compassionate service. The Medical Receptionist will also act as an advocate for hospital programs and adheres’ to the hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Motto of “The Patient is First in All We Do”.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Examples of Medical Receptionist responsibilities

  • Answer multi-line phones and either direct the caller to the appropriate party or handle the caller's needs yourself
  • Greet patients upon arrival, sign them in and obtain insurance information and any other necessary data
  • Provide patients with intake and new patient forms as well as copies of our office policies and legally required documents
  • Process payments from patients for co-pays and uninsured visits
  • Schedule appointments for new and recurring patients based on Physician and PA/NP availability
  • Maintain hard copy patient records as well as the files stored in our EHR
  • Call patients to remind them of upcoming appointments and to help them schedule testing for off-site services
  • Provide patients with support and guidance as needed
  • Provides basic clinic patient interaction by collecting urine samples, vitals, patient information including history and prescription history
  • Teamwork and respect for co-workers is required.       A customer-service attitude toward patients, other employees and outside organizations is expected.
  • Demonstrates a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm to create a team atmosphere conducive to self-improvement and agency growth. Performs other duties as assigned by the provider.
  • Demonstrates patience and tact when dealing with patients, family, and other staff members, conveying a sense of caring and dignity.
  • Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and moral integrity, acting as self-starter who works independently and who consistently finds ways to improve their own job and hospital operations as part of the health care team.
  • Assumes responsibility for knowing agency policy and expectations.
  • Must comply with HIPPA and keep home care / hospital confidentiality. 
  • Must attend complete OSHA training, compliance training, and yearly flu vaccination.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma/GED required
  • 1+ years' experience in medical field (preferred) 
  • Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and prioritize tasks based on importance
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office and desktop publishing software

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to carry, climb, hear/listen, lift, reach and manipulate objects, tools, or equipment, push/pull, see, speak, squat/kneel, stand, and walk.  Position requires moving materials weighing 10 – 20 pounds, and 25 – 50 pounds on an occasional basis.  Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 80% of the work period.  Work involves the potential for exposure to infection.  The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
