Part-Time Housekeeper

JOB SUMMARY

The environmental service department has a vital role in cleaning and sanitizing the hospital to help ensure that we exceed our patient’s expectations; attention to detail is critical to this position. The team cleans hospital patient rooms, bathrooms, offices, halls etc. along with laundering of liens. This position will interact with patients during their hospital visit, therefore, it is vital to be pleasant, easy to work with, and is willing to build rapport with patients. Will act as an advocate for hospital programs and adheres’ to the hospital Mission, Vision, Values and Motto of “The Patient is First in All We Do”.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Washes beds and mattresses.
  • Keeps utility and storage rooms in clean and orderly condition.
  • Launders all laundry.
  • Distributes laundered articles and linens.
  • Disinfects and sterilizes equipment and supplies.
  • Sweeps, scrubs, waxes, and polishes floor.
  • Cleans rugs, carpets, upholstered furniture and draperies.
  • Dusts furniture and equipment.
  • Washes walls, ceiling, windows, door panels, sills and woodwork.
  • Empties wastebaskets and transports trash and waste to disposal.
  • Complete daily, weekly and monthly cleaning assignments with attention to detail.
  • Reports repairs and concerns of equipment or facility to the maintenance department.
  • Orients and mentors new staff mentors. Creates a positive and inviting learning environment for students and fellow employees.
  • Takes initiative to handle problems and situations that need attention during their shift.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned.
  • Demonstrates a spirit of cooperation and enthusiasm in order to create a team atmosphere conducive to self-improvement and agency growth. Performs other duties as assigned by the home care director, participating in specialty teams and agency programs.
  • Demonstrates patience and tact when dealing with patients, family and other staff members, conveying a sense of caring and dignity.
  • Demonstrates a sense of responsibility and moral integrity, acting as self-starter who works independently and who consistently finds ways to improve their own job and hospital operations as part of the health care team.
  • Assumes responsibility for knowing agency policy and expectations.
  • Must comply with HIPPA and keep home care / hospital confidentiality.
  • Must attend yearly OSHA training and yearly flu vaccination.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required Job Qualifications include:

  • High School diploma or equivalent, required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is frequently required to carry, climb, hear/listen, lift, reach and manipulate objects, tools, or equipment, push/pull, see, speak, squat/kneel, stand, and walk.  Heavy physical exertion is also required as duties involve moving materials weighing 10 – 20 pounds continually, and 25 – 50 pounds.  Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 90% of the work period.  Work involves the potential for exposure to infectious.  This position requires mobility. The employee is occasionally exposed to outside weather conditions. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
