scanner was installed at Gunnison Valley Hospital in June of 2003. This scanner provides a faster, more informative study for patients and their doctor. The CT scanner has the capability to reconstruct images following a study into coronal, sagittal, axial, and 3-Dimensional images, without further radiation to the patient. We have the capability to do stone-a-grams, looking for kidney stones, CT abdomen/ pelvis for appendicitis and other abdominal pain symptoms. We also do head work for sinuses, facial bones, brains, etc. We can scan extremities for verification of fractures and other anomalies. Chests can be scanned for diagnostic reasons including PE studies and PE/DVT of the legs and chest for clots of the vascular system. The CT scanner is used for trauma and has been a great asset in trauma work. Scans can be performed quickly without moving the patient much and can be sent to the Radiologist for reading and results given within a short period of time. The studies are faster, more convenient, easier on the patient, and far more accurate.
The CT scanner also provides Bone Mineral Density tests . This is a quick easy test to determine the bone mass in diagnosing osteoporosis and the effects of hormone use on the bone mass.
Exams for CT are performed on a scheduled basis. They are also covered on an on-call basis for emergency services 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
All exams require an order from your doctor. Following each exam a report is sent to the ordering physician, from whom you must get your report. For questions or examination scheduling call 435-528-2125.
